I came across these two scans in my Lightroom catalog and thought I’d share them. Both were taken in the town of Richmond, Swaledale, in North Yorkshire, in 1985, on a Canon AE-1 with Fujichrome slide film. I liked the nostalgic / vintage colours, the old cars in one shot and the smoke from coal fires in the other, which is rare now for environmental reasons.
I like the fact that images taken 28 years ago (and older if you have them) can still be viewed, scanned, and further edited by blending old and new technologies. On the negative side (no pun intended), tt is noticeable however that the quality of this older slide film is nothing like as good as modern Fuji Velvia or Provia – not to mention the new Kodak Portra with it’s very wide dynamic range. Although some people view film as obsolescent, the quality of film available now is better then ever.
